EOC Week 3: Making Money for Good

Speaking from my own personal view and experience, I learned about nonprofit organizations first before for-profit companies, and of course putting two and two together, it’s obvious to see that both of them go hand in hand when it comes to helping the unfortunate which now I know as “cause-related marketing”. “Cause-related marketing the cooperative marketing efforts between a for-profit firm and a nonprofit organization” (Pg. 45). Diving deeper within learning about for-profit companies, I saw that big-name companies partner with other companies to simply help the less fortunate. A great well-known example of this type of partnership would be between the Livestrong foundation and the sports-wear giant Nike who “...sold more than 80 million Livestrong bracelets for cancer research” (Pg. 45).

A definite group of people to point out is a group called Games Done Quick, which is so because they don’t exactly have a product to offer, but they hold two huge annual events, one in the Winter called Awesome Games Done Quick and the other in the Summer properly named Summer Games Done Quick which feature different people “Speedrunning” video games which is the act of completing a certain video game with the fastest time they could produce. For each event they choose an organization to partner with and help their cause for example, their last event was Summer Games Done Quick 2016 was partnered with Doctors Without Borders which send doctors and medical professionals around the world to regions that are affected by epidemics, disasters or conflicts. They were extremely successful this year coming in at a final total of 1.3 million dollars. Nonprofit organizations of course strive and live off of overwhelming support from whatever fanbase they are targeting with each partnership. “...although they use other terms, such as fees, donations, tuition, fares, fines, or rates” (Pg. 218).

Week 2 EOC: Boston Consulting Group - Video Games

The video game market is definitely an interesting market to always be aware of and to always look out for, simply because although video game trends tend to be the same or similar, it’s always and constantly changing more than people would normally think. When it comes to video games, big-name and independent developers alike are trying to think of new ways to engage players into their games mainly in the form of new twists and gimmicks within a certain game attempting to bring something fresh into the world of video gaming. With mobile games on the constant rise, it is likely that they will become a definite staple within the gaming community than just a “casual” experience. For the first time, mobile gaming will take a larger share than PC with $36.9 billion, up 21.3% globally” (https://newzoo.com/insights/articles/global-games-market-reaches-99-6-billion-2016-mobile-generating-37/). Another point towards the video game industry constantly changing would be the rising surge of “Esports” which is of course gaming at the competitive level. Even levels up to the fact that even sports media giant ESPN is even covering Esports regularly now. “Pro-gaming is set to generate upwards of a billion dollars in revenues by 2019, according to research firm Newzoo” (http://time.com/4241977/espn-esports/). Just like what was previously mentioned, video games are always in a flux in terms of what is trending and what is popular, a great way to firmly grasp the ideas of big-name video game developers is to look into E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo) which happens annually. E3 is always the most anticipated time of each year for video gamers simply because it is when future video games themselves or even possible consoles or peripherals are announced and it gets the whole gaming community excited for what is to come in the future of the gaming world. A great example of this would be from E3 2016; the fact that gaming giant, SEGA has revealed and confirmed that they have “major news” for Sonic The Hedgehog fans. Despite Sonic The Hedgehog being around for such a long time and having its recent games within the franchise to be massive flops, Sonic is still a major icon within the gaming community and with the fans knowing that Sonic will probably be getting a remake for its 25th anniversary, fans of the old Sonic The Hedgehog games are going nuts for the pure and potential nostalgia. “SEGA has confirmed that it will have some news in store about “Sonic The Hedgehog” (http://www.techtimes.com/articles/164999/20160614/e3-2016-sega-confirmed-to-have-major-news-for-sonic-the-hedgehog-fans-but-dont-get-too-excited.htm).

Week 1 EOC: Great Customer Service

Great customer service lies in the will of the employee to help his/her customers with excellent care and consideration without wasting the time of the customer and/or the employee themself. “The customers’ evaluation of a good or service in terms of whether that good or service has met their needs and expectations…” (Lamb, 8). Great customer service isn’t rare to find, but it’s just taken for granted most of the time. Personally, restaurants are the only places where customer service stands out the most and where it’s easiest to know who truly excels at great customer service. Just recently, my family and I enter a restaurant which is normally known to have staggering amounts of people in attendance eating there, but it was fairly late so there weren’t many people present. As soon as we enter through the main entrance we were instantly greeted by the host standing there with a smile on his face which automatically let me know that he strives to make a good impression of customers he encounters. He then politely tells my family and I to stand in a certain area while we wait to be seated. A few minutes pass by and we were then greeted by the waiter who seated us at our table. Once we were seated, the waiter of course gave us time to look over our menus and informed us that our server will be with us shortly, and he was right. Throughout our experience there that night, my family and I were very well pleased with how well our server took care of us; starting from our drinks to our check, it certainly was a pleasure to have someone as tentative and polite as he was. Customer service still exists just about everywhere you go, with a few exceptions of course, but you’ll know it when you experience it yourself.

Week 1 EOC: My Voice

My very first look into the video industry began as a video project for my English class during my junior year of high school. When my teammates and I started to go through the whole filming process, I began to take the lead with everything from directing the project to editing it afterwards, ever since the day I was given that project I knew that the video industry was something that I wanted to be a part of. So now I continue to demonstrate my abilities and skills through of course, the content that I put out with my heart and soul along with it. My slight experience with motion graphics, I believe puts me at a definite advantage above other film producers because of my ability to be proficient during the shoots and during post-production as well. My flexibility combined with my enthusiasm would definitely prove to be useful in the field. As a kid I have always had the drive to impress people around me with whatever I did. Especially to this day, I strive to pursue the same goal; to “wow” my audiences with my work within this field. I’m not aiming to be the very best film producer/editor, but I just want to be able to impress and inspire others willing to go through the same path as I. I know the path is rough, but this is how great things start.
